Should I sell my Mercs and buy Roosies/.999 instead?
I've been thinking about selling some of my Mercs (a lot of which are slicks) hoping that potential buyers on eBay would see that they're old and silver, and then buying other 90 percenters or .999. Anyone else think this is a good idea, or should I just not worry about trying to flip my Mercs? I don't have a lot of Mercs--less than $50 face. What do you guys think?

Ebay will also fleece you on the fee's. Try GIM or the Nucleo exchange over on Bullion Direct. |

Well, I don't know that these are necessarily numismatic-grade, but I'm thinking if I could sell them for at least melt value of regular-weight coins even though, like I said, a lot of these are slicks, then at least I'd be able to more or less break even. But because a lot of the Mercs are slicks, they weigh less than Roosies and less than the stated melt value on Coinflation because they weigh less. But maybe collectors would be interested. I dunno.

Re: Should I sell my Mercs and buy Roosies/.999 instead?
As of Jan 20th, APMEX was selling $100 Merc Dimes for 14.61x face. Roosies were selling for 14.56x face in $100 bags, so not much of a difference really.
By comparison, they were selling: $100 Walking Liberty halves 14.61x face $100 Franklin halves 14.51x face $100 mixed bags of 90% 13.1x face Around here, the dealers seem to mix in well worn Mercs with Roosies. Sometimes, I have seen them mix in decent Mercs with Roosies, while other times have kept them separate. I guess it depends on their stock and demand levels. To answer the original question, if you can sell a slick Merc dime and get a decent condition Roosie dime, it might not be a bad idea. I have had multiple customers tell me that they think 90% will be traded by weight versus face value in the near future. So if you can trade up in terms of weight, while maintaining the same face value then by all means I would do it. |

I will ALWAYS defer to Mercs over Roosies.
But if you are skilled enough to play the arbitrage. Go for it :ok: T |

Hardly seems worth it. What's your motivation?
P.S. I guess your motivation is profit, but it seems like we're talking about $50-$75, minus the shipping costs and hassle. That's why it hardly seems worth it. |

Thanks for the advice, CoinHunter. Do you think eBay would be the least-worst place to sell slicks?

I'll try to post a photo of the Mercs on here in a little while. |

Ebay will entail a bunch of fees on the sale side, which when you go to buy the roosies, you'll lose any "profit".
You should start by weighing the mercs to see how much they're off to see how worthwhile this will be. Weigh a bunch at a time, don't weigh them all individually and add it up. |

One thing I have done in the past when selling 90% is to mix good with bad, and then batch weigh them to ensure that the buyer is receiving about 7.15 net troy ounces of silver per $10 face. It's a little more work, but if you're up front about the amount of silver in the lot and there being some slicks, there's not much they can scream about when they receive it. |

i would sell the $50 face value on ebay and take the proceeds and rebuy 10 oz .999 bars.
